Portland Using Marijuana Tax Revenue to Educate Public on Safe Driving

or

The City of Portland has announced that it will use $300,000 of marijuana tax revenue to fund a new campaign called “Struck.” The campaign aims to educate residents regarding the necessity of safe driving. The city hopes that the program will end traffic fatalities in the area.

This is the largest public safety campaign ever in Portland, according to Good News Network. Many city streets, where more accidents take place, will also receive some renovations. Public education will be the focal point of the campaign.

City Commissioner Dan Saltzman said, “If we are going to reduce fatalities, we need to change how people think when they get behind the wheel. It used to be socially acceptable to drive without a seat belt or drive when people were not quite sober. But with new laws and education programs, we changed people’s behavior.”
