Mexico Delays Legalizing Recreational Marijuana, Again

Mexico

Mexico has, once again, extended its deadline to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. But, this time, the delay is because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and not lawmakers.

Initially, the Mexico Supreme Court gave senators a deadline of October 31, 2019, to legalize marijuana, Remezcla reported. Then, in October, the court gave lawmakers a 6-month extension—setting a new deadline of April 30, 2020—to have more time to draft the country’s new marijuana law.

Now, due to coronavirus, it is expected that Mexican lawmakers will legalize cannabis during the next scheduled legislative session that starts on September 1 and ends December 15.
