Michigan Recreational Marijuana Sales Begin on Dec 1

Michigan Marijuana

Michigan’s marijuana consumers finally have a date when recreational sales will begin. The December 1 implementation date will allow adults in Michigan to begin consuming recreational marijuana in a couple weeks.

Medical marijuana dispensaries that will be catering to recreational customers are permitted to transfer half of their inventory to the recreational sales, ABC 12 News reported. Medical marijuana dispensaries that want to offer recreational sales must have the appropriate licensing to do so. Applications started to be accepted earlier in November.

Michigan residents ages 21 and older can grow up to 12 plants and possess up to 2.5 oz. of marijuana in public. In their homes, they’re permitted to possess 10 ounces. Marijuana is only permitted to be used inside a private residence. Anyone wishing to grow at home must do so in a secure area that is not visible to the public.

There are no protections in place for employees that wish to consume marijuana. Employers can still prohibit use.

The availability of marijuana via dispensaries is expected to be sparse at first. More availability is expected in spring 2020 as more cultivators are licensed.
