Western Oregon City Bans Outdoor Marijuana Cultivation

Marijuana Grow Ban

Medford adopted a new ordinance banning backyard marijuana growing. In November, local residents voted to approve the ban. Not everyone enjoys the smell of marijuana in their neighborhood.

Fines for outdoor marijuana grows start at $250 per day, KATU 2 On Your Side reports. Indoor grows are still allowed, but the odor can’t be noticeable to neighbors. The city hasn’t banned recreational sales and has 13 licensed marijuana retailers.

Ordinance enforcement will be based off of complaints. Law enforcement, according to City attorney Kevin McConnell, won’t be out hunting for the outdoor gardens.
