The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, John Kelly, said on Easter that “marijuana is not a factor in the drug war.” He said the biggest problem is with the highly addictive drugs, like meth and heroin, and that that the solution isn’t arresting people for using drugs.

Kelly said, “Marijuana is not a factor in the drug war. It’s three things. Methamphetamine. Almost all produced in Mexico. Heroin. Virtually all produced in Mexico. And cocaine that comes up from further south,” according to Fortune.

Regarding a solution for the drug epidemic in the U.S., he said, “The solution is a comprehensive drug demand reduction program in the United States that involves every man and woman of goodwill.”
