Oregon State Fair to Display Marijuana Plants for First Time in History

OR Marijuana Fair

Marijuana plants were recently judged and rated at the Oregon Cannabis Grower’s Fair in Salem, Oregon. The winning plants will be displayed at the Oregon State Fair this month, making for the first time in history that marijuana plants will be displayed at a state fair.

The winning nine marijuana plants will be displayed from August 26 through September 5, according to The Washington Post. The plants that will be displayed are non-flowering. This is a step up from last year’s fair where only an informational marijuana booth was available.

The three categories of plants that fair-goers can view are sativa, indica, and hybrid. Security will be guarding the transparent tent display. Identification will also be checked as only those ages 21 and older are permitted to enter the exhibit.

The main reason for the plants being immature and non-flowering is that the Oregon Liquor Control Commission is still working out regulations regarding open display and transporting of mature, flowering plants. Regulations are expected to be in place sometime in 2017.

Oregon State Fair spokesperson Dan Cox said, “It is a showcase for traditional things. And yet, it’s always been a show place for the new, the different and the innovative.”
