Oregon State Fair Will Be Judging Best Oregon-Grown Marijuana

Marijuana Oregon

The Oregon State Fair takes place in Salem this August. A new category for best marijuana has been added to the agricultural sector. This will be the first time in U.S. history that best local marijuana crops will be showcased at a state fair.

Marijuana is growing cash crop in Oregon, according to information reported by The LA Times. The judging panel is already in place. The sampling panel will include 71-year old, self-named “Guru of Ganja” Ed Rosenthal.

Oregon Cannabis Business Council chair Don Morse said, “We regularly reach out to the community with some form of education to destigmatize the industry and the plant. For the people at the state fair to let this happen is really groundbreaking.”

Nine winners will be chosen during a pre-fair elimination contest taking place on August 13 and 14 of the Oregon State Fair. Up to 60 growers are expected to submit samples of live marijuana plants. The event is being called the Oregon Cannabis Fair.

The contest is designed to include three categories with three winners per category. The categories are sativa, hybrid, and indica. Plants receiving recognition will be displayed at the fair, which begins on August 26.

Plants planned for entry may not be in the flowering stage. Visitors to the display must be at least 21 years old. Marijuana use is not permitted on fair grounds.
